You’ve been waiting for it, and now it’s here! It’s time to make your reservations for Come Kamp & Care With Us Weekend, one of our campers’ favorite annual events.
We asked our friends on Facebook why they look forward to this special weekend, and got a lot of different reasons people participate.
“It has become our Mother’s Day tradition to camp at KOA during Kamp & Care Weekend,” wrote Magna San Martin. “What a great blessing to spend a weekend with my six kids and help other kids at the same time. I just love it and look forward to it every year.”
According to Thomas Lecceadone, he and his family look forward to it ever year. “It is usually our family camping season kickoff,” he noted. “We also use it to try out other KOAs in the area. Since we started camping in 2007, we have visited Westfield/Lake Erie, Kinzua East and Warsaw/Dream Lake. Of course the two for one is nice, but the cause is even better.”
During Come Kamp & Care With Us Weekend, campers can stay at participating KOA campgrounds on Friday, May 11, 2012 as a paying guest and get Saturday night, May 12, 2012 free. During that weekend, many campgrounds offer special activities and events, from Spaghetti dinners and silent auctions to poker runs and rubber ducky regattas, to help raise money to help send children with cancer to summer camp. In 2011 alone, over $425,000 was raised to support this cause.
“We always go camping that weekend,” wrote Rhonda Hinton Nicholas. “It is a wonderful cause.” Travis Archey agreed. “I go every year.”
In addition to a remarkable fundraising event, Come Kamp & Care With Us Weekend also provides a great reason for family and friends to come together.
“It is usually the same weekend as the women’s run, so lots of family comes to town,” noted Deedee Pearce. “We have a huge barbeque and sit around the fire and reminisce.”
Because this is one of KOA’s most popular weekends, campers are encouraged to make reservations early via koa.com or by calling their favorite KOA. It’s also important to note that many campgrounds will be having additional activities that weekend to celebrate Mother’s Day, so you may want to make it a getaway for the moms in your life.

What a way to start the season !!
MY WIFE DOES NOT LIKE TO CAMP–NEVER HAS, NEVER WILL–I ENJOY IT BECAUSE IT GIVES ME A REASON TO GET OUT OF THE CITY AND SHE DOES NOT QUESTION IT: SHE STAYS HOME.
WE HAVE BEEN MARRIED, ONLY, FORTY-FIVE YEARS AND COUNTING.
I ENJOY COOKING OVER AN OPEN FIRE AND DOING A LITTLE COWBOY COOKING. THE WIFE BELIEVES ROUGHING IT IS SOMEWHERE WITH ROOM SERVICE THAT YOU HAVE TO CALL THE NIGHT BEFORE FOR NEXT DAY’S BREAKFAST.
THANK YOU KOA!
AMEN
AMEN
If doesnt like the campin then your smart to go on it by your self..She doesnt know what she is missing by not going..But seeing you have been together that long you must share her interests also even tho you may not agree as to what they may be…Mine would be lost and hurt if i went without her..I never would even get out of the driveway…Happy Trails and enjoy the fresh air even with your self..Fact is your not by your self as there are all these people out here including my self who call you FRIEND!!!!

Hi George: BOGO stands for “Buy One, Get One”. Thanks for asking! –Your KOA Kompass Team
Our camping club will attend this for the first time this Mother’s Day weekend, thank you.
KOA camping has got to be the best of the best in our book of camping…. We’ve enjoy’d camping with you folks now for many years….. Yellowstone west entrance KOA last year made our first Yellowstone experience a most memorable trip to add to our camping adventures…. Thanks KOA and all that participate to make KOA camping the best of the best….

Chuck we also stayed at the koa in west yellowstone last year and found it to be one of the most money making campgrounds yet. We found them to be rude and catered to the people in motor homes. We were in a popup the wifi was horrible and were given a lame excuse about too many people on line at the same time.
We stayed at West Yellowstone also last summer and we agree with you, Allan and Theresa. And we were in a motorhome, so that made no difference. It was outrageously priced, the folks were downright nasty to deal with and we were there a week. It was the worst KOA experience we have had in 3 years of Kamping with KOA!
You are camping and bitching about the wifi? Give your head a shake!
A great way to start off the 2012 camping season.
Dang! The Moab, UT KOA is not a participating one! We go to Moab every Mother’s Day and have stayed at that KOA before. Please tell the owners/managers that we wish it was included!
It is such a wonderful weekend!! I just love all the activities that Gettysburg has for its campers. We have been going to this activity for many years now. We look forward to starting the season off with this!! Thanks KOA!!
Staying at the Best KOA in North America ( Barrie Ontario Can.),again this year. Thanks to Amy & Tony for such a great weekend .
What a great weekend planned! Love the amenities – great time of fun, fellowship as well as honoring mother’s day weekend – Thank you KOA – and for the cause that we are celebrating. See yall in May!

hi Im a new member have a koa card , would lke to do the the may 12 free day ,please send me an e mail about the particulars for this ,my wife and i would like to camp w/ you
Been camping at koa for 20 years. This year for that weekend we will be at mt pleasant south carolina. Great family time. Cant wait.
We have always loved the experience with KOA until last year. We stayed at the Niagara Falls North/Lewiston NY Koa in August of 2011. The service was terrible, the activities promised on the website (no mention about them ONLY being on weekends) never happened – ANY of them, though the price (very high) per night was the SAME – the WIFI was all but non-existent unless you were AT the office, and the manager/owner comment was basically “oh well, we have your money and we know you won’t be back, so there’s no need to bother trying to make you happy.” The wonderful treatment and great facilities (except the low-quality – including limited hot water – bathrooms) at the Hagerstown/Antietam Battlefield KOA were why we loved KOAs to begin with. They always had great programs for kids and families, etc. That said, even with the FREE night in May, we just cannot afford $75 per night (four adults and one teen) for RVing; we’ll have to change to more reasonable campgrounds for the future. Goodbye KOA; it was nice knowing you and it was – usually – wonderful!
Thank goodness at least one other person is noticing the outrageous pricing at the KOAs. It seems to me to be just a business venture now by the ones that choose to buy a franchise. I consider it money grubbing. The only thing one can do is not camp there.
Hi! Even though my area of the country (Western NY State) has had a lack of lake effect snow and below zero temperatures this year (yeah, Metro Buffalo, NY can indeed be snowless!!!), I just cannot wait go start camping.
This BOGO is a great way to try a new KOA facility, and an excuse, for me to get out of the house for a couple of days, sit by a campfire and see the stars without light pollution spoiling the view. I am sure I’ll take advantage of it.
Thanks KOA!!!
I clicked on the link in the e-mail which was all about a free night at KOA. Looking at the site there is no sign of your promise. Thanks KOA.
Opps. Sorry. I see the sentence in the middle of the article which describes the deal.
love this weekend for the start of spring and for a great cause, we booked at a participating koa and what did i see on FB last night?? they made a mistake and are not doing it this year!!! after we booked! i sent them a email and a message still nothing from this koa… not a good way to start the camping year with a unhappy camper!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks walnut hills koa in stauton virginia!

I Have always stayed at State Parks and I choose last year to try the KOA in Monroe Michigan with my daughter and two small grandchildren. We stayed for a week. Good parts I liked was the entertainment from the staff, all staff members were very nice and helpful, loved the swimming and the big slide and all the other imedities but my dislikes were to many firepits, had to watch the kids constantly for fear of them falling in one, Site areas are to close together, When we arrived the site was not cleaned up after the last campers and there was beer caps all over the place plus just my site had 4 fire pits on it and it created allot of soot the the kids were filthy the first half hour we were there. The price I paid in cash and had reservations should have insurred me that my site would be ready for me. Also I think that if this is for families with kids the adults should keep their drinking and adult ways at their own campsite and not walk around drinking their beers and cocktails for these young eyes to see…Because their is drinking and adult fun there at this camp ground two adults lost their lives by drowing in the pond we swim in..and thats another story….Other than this I did have a good time and so did the babies..maybe this can help the the people that run it.
