Last month we introduced our One-Tank Wonders, trips that are close to home, but full of adventure. Now we’re ready to introduce three more cities: Minneapolis, Chicago and Salt Lake.
Although each of these urban centers offer a lot of fantastic things to do within their city limits, they’re also the perfect jumping off point for fun getaways. Think delicious food, unusual museums and delightful outdoor escapes. And of course, there’s always a KOA close by.
So whether you live in one of these cities or are just planning a visit, take a look at what’s nearby. And we’d love to hear your ideas, too, on some great One-Tank Wonders near you.

Why don’t you have anything in Washington state? Or any places going from Washington to California?
How about from the Ocala, Florida area or Orlando area?
Sherry have you tried Ichnatucknee Springs? It is in north florida near Micanopy.
You can go tubing down a cold spring run. Ginnie Springs looks like a fun place to camp.
Ginnie Springs is an awesome one tank trip. It’s so much a family favorite that my kids travel from around the country to meet up there. Tubing down the river and swimming in the springs are great to experience, and the camp ground is great. It’s a private camp ground with a state park feel.
I live in rural northeastern New Mexico. Would love some 1-Tank Trip ideas from Raton, NM.
How about from sarasota or fort meyers florida??
We just spent two days in Myacca Park. They just developed a new RV-friendly campground with plenty of room between the sites. It’s a state park with an old Florida feel. Airboat and tram tours, birding, biking, hiking, canoeing and kayaking, fishing…and alligators.
I am in Michigan, Where there are many great campgrounds, lots of lakes, streams, great places to camp on one tank of gas… like Mackinaw City. Maybe along us 31 to Casinos or sand dunes. There is even the Upper Penisula of Michigan that is very beautiful with many waterfalls. Great fishing,, charter boats or in your own boat.. I love this State…..
What about the Eureka, CA area Northern California along the coast
From the Eureka, CA or Crescent City, CA KOA, you can easily visit the Oregon Caves to the north, or the Redwoods to the south. Crescent City also has an interesting aquarium called Ocean World. It is an aquarium that was built around a “”sunken”" barge. Eureka has the Discovery Museum and the Sequois Zoo Park. It’s also fun to visit the many beaches or just walk down the streets to see the businesses and look at the many interesting buildings.
I live in central Pennsylvania. What do you have close?
I live in Slidell, Louisiana. Is there any close to us for a one tank of gas trip?
I’m not talking about the KOA in our city.
You should also do Jacksonville, FL, including St. Marys, GA. Great place to visit and there are lots more, such as the National Seashore, St. Augustine and all the beaches south of Jacksonville.
We have been going to the New Smyrna Beach ( Fla) area for more years than I care to mention. Wonderful area! 50 minutes from the hussle and bussle of Orlando and the mouse house; half hour north of Cape Canaveral; minutes from Daytona and none of the huge crowds and traffic. WHAT AM I SAYING!??! NOBODY GO THERE. AWFUL PLACE! YOU WILL HATE IT!!! /;-)
I live in Berea, KY give me some idea’s without horses.
How about coastal South Carolina from Myrtle Beach area?
Wilmington is about an hour north of Myrtle. Great things to see and do there.
Lots of places in mountaints of NC. Start from Asheville and one tank can take you alll through the smokies
I live in Springfield, Mo. How about some one tank trips from here?
Have you tried Bennett Springs, or the Beaver Lake area around Rogers, AR.
